Barclays Capital Presents ITHAKA By Alexandra Hedison

Concrete and Glass is pleased to present ITHAKA an exhibition of new photographs by Los Angeles based artist Alexandra Hedison.

Structured around journeys, Hedison’s work addresses themes of loss, transition, and recovery as photographs in various locations around the world searching for each site’s complex identity.

Using the temperate rainforest of the Pacific Northwest as an illustration of the internal odyssey that comes with change, Hedsion formed the body of work titled ITHAKA, inspired by C.P. Cavafy’s poem of the same name. In the poem Cavafy begins by offering a piece of advice: “As you set out for Ithaka, pray that the road is a long one, full of adventure, full of discovery.” For Hedison, this series of photographs is not a literal portrayal of the forest but rather an attempt to chart and in fact document the process of personal growth. Using the forest as a metaphor, Hedison’s work illustrates the journey from a recognisable place to one that is unfamiliar, in fact presenting the individuals journey through life itself.
