‘Between Shadows’ sees recent works brought together by five London based emerging artists displayed in a large East End warehouse. The show is based on the concept that what lies between objects and their shadows are gaps in reality. Thus, for an artist, the space between shadows presents an infinite space to be filled in – it is a painter’s playground. Similarly Swedish poet Gunnar Ekelöf believed the essence of meaning could be found “Between the words, between the lines, between the meanings”. These artists free themselves of the limitations of direct representation in favour of abstracted visions. As a result we are invited to invent narratives through their playful and ambiguous approach to their chosen medium.
